Ahead of its release in June, Bethesda today released a new trailer for The Elder Scrolls Online's Morrowind expansion, this one focusing on the new cool-looking Warden class.
To celebrate the massive content addition that is a new class in a MMORPG title, Bethesda released a gameplay trailer featuring the Warden earlier today. In the video, gamers get a glimpse of the nature-based skills and abilities of the Warden, which includes a hefty amount of bear-related chaos on top of command over birds, trees, and various other elements one might see during a particularly interesting camping trip. The video is under two minutes long, so it certainly doesn't showcase everything the new Warden class has to offer, but it is a strong introduction that should sell Elder Scrolls Online players on the class.
"With the versatility to act as a damage dealer, a healer, or protector (or any combination in between) the Warden's powerful and unique nature-based magic brings an entirely new element to ESO," Bethesda said in a press release.
Players can "fully" customize the Warden, Bethesda said. As you can see in the video embedded above, the Warden can summon a War Bear or plants that spring up from the ground as healing elements.
The Warden is just one part of what's new with the Morrowind expansion. It also adds the Vvardenfell location, with a storyline involving the warrior-poet Vivec. A new PvP mode is also included with the add-on.
The introduction of the Warden marks just the fifth class total in The Elder Scrolls Online, which eschews having a high number of different classes and instead chooses to offer a high degree of flexibility in each of its character configurations. The Warden, for instance, is being marketed as an ally-focused class that will offer unique buffs to teammates, but exactly what those buffs do will be down to how players refine their characters – one Warden might prioritize buffing allies'attack, for instance, while another might be better suited to a party that does most of its damage and healing through magic.
Beyond the addition of the Warden, The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind is set to make major changes to the game's core gameplay elements, including the addition of a new PvP mode called Battlegrounds. That mode will feature 12-person, 3-team combat spread across the expansion's landscapes, with particular design attention being paid to ensuring most of Morrowind is functional as an arena setting as well.
While many predicted that Elder Scrolls Online would be yet another middling MMORPG before its release, the game has been steadily out-performing even the loftiest of expectations set prior to its launch. Elder Scrolls Online has already hit 8.5 million players worldwide, and the introduction of the Warden class adds a lot more depth to a game that is already appealing to those looking for MMORPG alternatives.
The Morrowind expansion launches on June 6 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For lots more ont he expansion, check out GameSpot's interview with game director Matt Firor and creative director Rich Lambert.
